A Brief Moment for Real Life

This is not steampunk. This is not science fiction or fantasy. This post is about real life.

I suffer from a pretty terrible form of depression (I know, how cliché, a writer with bipolar depression). I don’t talk about it much because it is something I wish would just go away. Unfortunately, it is not something that just goes away on its own. It is a medical condition. It is not a side of myself I like to share. Depression is an ugly world. It’s darkness and emptiness. Hopelessness.

There is help out there if you choose to seek it, though. October 11th is National Depression Screening Day, and I urge anyone out there suffering from depression to go get yourself screened. It won’t hurt, nobody will judge you (fuck them if they do). Do it for yourself, your family and loved ones. You can improve your mental health. Take that step.

Edit to add: And just because it ceases to be Oct. 11th doesn’t mean you can’t get help. Don’t put it off.
